As spring finally arrives, it’s that time of year where we just don’t want to wear as much makeup, so we make sure that our winter skin is well and truly behind us and prep to achieve a beautiful glowing complexion that is bright and ready to face the sun. The product that I will be reviewing today is a face mask that will help on the first step of that mission.
Niikam Pure Clay Mask |
The Niikam Pure Clay Mask is a healing, detoxifying face mask/exfoliant that is designed to help with removing blackheads, tightening pores, smoothing and evening out skin tone. It can be used as a face or body mask or in bathwater.
Niikam is a new brand that has just launched recently and their business ethos is that the "products [they] produce and deliver will inspire a lasting change to [their] customers physical and mental well-being".
The Pure Clay Mask is 100% natural, and this particular one who is made up of just one ingredient: bentonite clay. It is also organic and is cruelty free.
Bentonite clay is a powerful healing clay that is used in many commercial face masks, so if you are a clay mask fan then the chances are that you have used this on your skin before. This product though simply allows the power of this clay to shine on its own.
It is particularly great at helping to heal blemishes, remove blackheads, unclog pores, soothe eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, reduce inflammation, help to heal the skin after sun exposure and also to detoxify. You can see why it's used in so many clay masks, I'm sure.
It comes packaged in a white foil, re-sealable packet with the product info on the front and the back in black, so it’s a very sleek monochrome package and it looks very nice. Once you tear it open though, the mask itself is a fine, light brown clay powder that comes in a transparent plastic pack that will need to be cut open with scissors. I warn you to be careful with that though as the clay is so fine and it can be easy to lose excess mask in a cloud as you open it.
Application and Results:

Before you apply this anywhere, you're going to need to mix it up. Niikam say to use one part clay two parts water to create a paste that you can apply to your skin. Of course if you decide to use it in your bath, you will just need to sprinkle some in (I haven't yet tried this out myself though).
The packaging wasn’t super clear on how long to leave the mask on for, so I decided on the average sort of time of 10-15 minutes or so. This was enough time for the mask to dry properly and was when it was tight enough to know that it was time to remove. Their product page also says to just allow it to dry and then remove, so it's around the same time length.
When on the face, you can really see it working hard at pulling excess oil out of the skin, which is always a good sign.
On removal, I have to admit that I was amazed. My pores looked a lot smaller, my skin was glowing and it had helped to remove a lot of my blackheads. There were still some left behind, but there were noticeably less than before use.
With face masks it usually takes a few uses before you begin to see some solid improvements, but I was very pleased with the results of just one use with this one.
If you have dry skin, you may be concerned about whether or not this is over-drying as I’ve just discussed how well it pulls excess oil out of the skin. Well, I have great news! Whilst it may feel tight and as if it may dry out your skin too much during use, it didn’t find it to do so at all.
I would suggest that instead of leaving it on for as long as I did, cut the time down to around 5-10 minutes. You may also want to add some oil to the mix, like coconut oil, or reship with a couple of drops of lavender or chamomile.
The DIY beauty side of me was actually very excited at the possibilities of creating my own blends in the future with this too as it is just the one ingredient. Yes it does work incredibly on its own, but a couple of drops of essential oils could help you to tailor a bit better during a bad break out, or an eczema flare up or something.
It can be a little messy to mix up, so I do recommend using a bowl or small pot to mix. You also don’t need to use tons of product, so one bag is going to last a long time.

As you get so much product in one bag, this product is such good value for money. For how much you get for the price you pay and how well it works, it's incredible. You get the results that you would expect of a far more highly priced product for a far lower price. Just amazing.
Product Rating: 9/10
