Avon True Colour Delicate Matte Lipstick reviews and swatches

Hey guys! I’ve got a treat for fans of the Avon True Colour Matte Lipstick and matte lipstick fans in general today! Avon are about to drop their new True Colour Delicate Matte shades.

So what’s the difference between these and their regular True Colour Matte Lipsticks collection? Well, these shades are stepping away from one of the major points that they drove home with the original release about being "more matte than MAC" and instead are giving us some slightly less matte, soft and sometimes sheer vibes - hence the name "delicate".

It comes in a range of 8 shades which only include one shade that could be classified as dark on a shade scale, so there is a lot of focus on the soft/nude type of colours here and less of the bright and colourful (such as the recent Avon mark. Epic Lipstick range).

They promise a comfortable, glide-on formula, to be long-wearing, and that it will not cake up on or dry out the lips.

Each of the shades are packaged in a traditional style of Avon lipstick packaging. It’s a black, matte, rectangular tube with Avon written on a silver strip around the lid. There is no transparent window at the top with this style though, and the inner tube is silver.

Before we get into the swatches, I just wanted to make some general observations about the collection as a whole.

  • They’ve got good wear time, just like the original matte formula. You can get a good few hours before a minor top up, or you may need a little touch up after eating and drinking. Nothing major though.
  • The majority have a great formula, but a couple don’t apply as well as the others. I’ll go into those under their respective swatches.
  • They all have a very creamy, smooth texture as you apply. They melt onto the lips very easily and smoothly.
  • Avon state that these lipsticks are weightless, and whilst I wouldn’t go as far as to say that you can’t tell that you’re wearing them, they are lighter than a lot of lipsticks are to wear.
  • All of them are pretty easy to remove. A baby wipe alone is enough to wipe them away with no issues.

Let’s get looking at the swatches!

Breathless Nude

Breathless Nude is a light, pinky nude shade. This shade was so much like my natural lip colour with one swipe that it was really difficult to tell if I’d applied it or not. I had to really layer this one up to finally see it, but if left sheer then it can look streaky.

Cashmere Taupe

This shade is very similar to Breathless Nude, but where Breathless Nude is more of a pink nude, this is more nude/brown. It does have better pigmentation though and doesn’t need as many layers to see it.

Pink Blush

A pretty, light, natural pink shade. This applied a bit patchy and needed a few layers to even it out.

Misty Mocha

This is the best nude shade of the bunch, a slightly darker nude than the others. It’s creamy, applies smoothly and easily and looks soft.

Mauve Whisper

This beautiful lilac shade is exactly the type of shade I was expecting of this collection. It has a really lovely soft focus look on the lips and is really pretty in person.

Plum Illusion

The darkest shades of this collection are more like the medium shades you’d usually find in a collection. This is a bright plum that is very summer-ready but also soft like Mauve Whisper.

Bitten Apple

I’ve said it time and time again, but Avon do really great red lipsticks. This is no exception. Bitten Apple is a bold red shade. The formula was so creamy and simply melted onto the lips with opaque colour with no effort.

Cherry Delight

This is the darkest shade of the bunch, and it’s a dark brown-red shade. It looks far darker in the tube than it does on the lips as it is a rather sheer formula and it makes what looks like a very dark shade into a mid-dark shade. This one would suit autumn/winter time very well.

And there we have it!

My favourite shades are Bitten Apple, Plum Illusion and Misty Mocha. I think that Misty Mocha is the most easily wearable shade for day to day wear, Bitten Apple is great for a bolder, more classic look, and Plum Illusion is more vibrant and summer ready.

I love this collection, and I think it’s great to have a softer option alongside the originals. Avon did release the Blushed Shades of the Matte Lipsticks, so if you are after something similar shade wise, but bolder in vibrancy, they may be worth checking out. If, however, you want something that is easy to wear but that lasts, these are a great option to try out.

Along with the swatches in this post, if you are a Pinterest fan, then you can find my collage of shades on my Pinterest page for you to pin to your own boards alongside collages of other Avon lipstick ranges.

The Avon True Colour Delicate Matte range will be launched in Campaign 12 in the UK both in the book and online. If you are in the UK, you can buy the new Delicate Matte’s from my online Avon store (courier or parcel shop delivery only, free delivery if you spend £30).

What are your thoughts on the Avon True Colour Delicate Matte range? Which shade is your favourite?
