Marc Jacobs New Nudes Sheer Gel Lipstick review

The perfect nude lipstick. You may have found yours, you might not. Either way, finding the perfect nude can sometimes feel like a lifelong journey. Well today, I'm going to try to help you on your hunt by discussing a shade that I've been roadtesting.

The Marc Jacobs New Nudes Sheer Gel Lipstick range is a collection of seven nude shades that come in a gellified formula that promises to provide a sleek shine finish. It contains monoi butter for moisture and Vitamin E and myrhh for anti-ageing effects.

They come packaged in a rather snazzy and chunky gold tube with Marc Jacobs written down the side of the lid in silver writing. The cap also has a silver circle where it clicks into place when you put it back on (I actually really love that part of the packaging, it'a hard to explain why unless you've played around with Marc Jacobs lipsticks before).

The lipstick then comes packaged in a shiny black box with the chosen shade indicated around the edges. The lipstick itself also has a subtle vanilla scent to it.

The shade that I have to show you all today is Anais, which is described as a "spiced ginger" colour.

Application and Results:

The first thing that you notice about this lipstick is that it keeps its promise by simply gliding onto the lips smoothly and easily, as if it's simply melting onto them. Because of this, this is one of those products that I'd recommend wearing a lip liner with. I've not experienced any issues with feathering personally, but it will help to pull the look together more nicely if you have a liner to match your chosen shade.

For something that is advertised as being sheer, I don't find it to be the sheerest lipstick I've ever used. With that said, I do find the formula and opacity to be perfect for a nude lipstick. It allows just enough of the lips natural shade to come through that takes away the boldness that you can get with a lot of others and helps the colour to look more natural with your skintone. This is why I think that this is a great formula for those who can't usually find a nude that flatters them and find bolder nudes to be too draining or odd looking.

In regards to longevity, I find that this has an average wear time of around 2-3 hours, so it will need frequent re-application. However, when teamed up with a lip primer, you can extend the wear another hour or two. The wear-time length is pretty average for a gel formula lipstick I'd say. You won't get the longevity of a matte lipstick here.

It's not very robust when it comes to eating or drinking so no matter how long you've been wearing it, expect to reapply afterwards.

Usually I struggle to find a nude shade that doesn't make me look washed out and drained, but I have been finding this one to be rather flattering so far. As explained before, I think that the formula is really the perfect balance to create a flattering nude shade, so even if you don't think Anais is for you, there are still another six out of seven chances that you can find your match.

The only downside that I can find to this lipstick is that it is likely to highlight my dry areas on your lips and may look a little streaky if there are any such areas. To combat that I recommend exfoliating the lips (or using this incredible lip balm every night to keep dead skin at bay) and/or to use a lip primer underneath (I've been using Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar Primer)

Overall, I am a huge fan of the Marc Jacobs New Nudes Sheer Gel Lipstick. The shade collection is very pretty and I think that it contains a great number to allow you to finally find your perfect nude shade.

If you're still looking for "the one," you should definitely give one of the Sheer Gel Lipstick shades a try.

You can purchase the Marc Jacobs New Nudes Sheer Gel Lipstick from John Lewis (or Sephora for you folks who are lucky enough to have Sephora in your country).
