Avon Shine Burst Gloss Stick collection review and swatches

Hi guys! I’m here today with another brand new lipstick range from Avon: the Shine Burst Gloss Stick collection.

Switching it up from their Perfectly Matte Lipstick range, Avon are taking it to the opposite side of the spectrum with this release by bringing us super glossy lips. Each one comes packed with superfruits and coconut oil for extra hydration as well as bright, glossy colour.

It comes in 10 shades and naturally, I have each and every one to show you today. They have a range of pinks, purples, nudes and reds and 5 of the shades include shimmer whilst the others are a creamy finish.

To me it seems that these are a hybrid of lipsticks, lip glosses and lip balms. They have the colour of a lipstick, high shine of a lip gloss and the hydration of a lip balm.

Each of the lipsticks are packaged in these sleek, metallic tubes that are the colour of the shade group they belong in (so the red shades are in a red tube, pinks in a pink tube and so on). The packaging is beautiful in person, but I have to admit straight from the get go that the metallic finish made photographing it a total nightmare.

General Observations:

Before jumping into the swatches, I just wanted to discuss some general things about the collection as a whole.

Firstly, the shimmer shades all seem to be much sheerer than the creamier ones. In addition, a couple of them also have issue with settling into the cracks on your lips (more on this in the swatches). The creamy shades are all much easier to work with and are definitely the better formula of the two.

Each of the Shine Burst Gloss Sticks are super creamy and simply melt onto the lips. This in particular really reminds of a lip balm, but because of the opacity of the colour it can be easy to end up with a streaky finish.

Because of the high-gloss and lip balm feel that these Gloss Sticks have, the wear time is only around a couple of hours at a stretch. This means that they will need re-applying fairly often. The hydration claim is a pretty good one though as there is no dryness whilst using these. Instead, the lips do feel soft and smooth after removal.

Now let's jump into the swatches!

Avon Shine Burst Gloss Stick swatches:

Fresh Fuchsia

This shade is a very bright, happy pink with a slight shimmer that is perfect for spring/summer. It can apply a little streaky but can be smoothed out. It's very wearable for day time or night time.

Nude Shine

This shade has a perfect name that describes it to a tee. It is a no-fuss nude shade with added shimmer.

Grapefruit

This is a GORGEOUS, reddy-pink shade. It is very wearable and particularly beautiful for spring/summer. Whilst it is classified as one of the red shades of the collection, I'd say that it leans more towards pink.

Iced Mocha

This is another fab nude shade that is slightly redder than Nude Shine. This time it is creamy with no shimmer.

Dragonfruit Pink

This is a subtle, very casual pink with a slight shimmer. It is quite sheer but build able to a degree.

Plum Shock

Plum Shock is a dark, purple shade with shimmer. The photo above shows that it settles into the lines on the lips, but it isn't as noticeable in person. The shade is beautiful but the settling can be an issue.

Raspberry Glaze

This one has another perfect name. Surprisingly, Raspberry Glaze is the only proper red of the collection and it is definitely has some pink in it too. This one also contains shimmer.

Vivid Cherry

Vivid Cherry is one of the best shades of the collection by far. It is a beautiful, mid-dark pinky-purple. It could be suitable for day or night, all year round.

Rose

Rose has one of the best formulas of the bunch. It is a pretty, rose, nude pink type of shade that is suitable for work, day time or night time, all year round.

Peach Punch

Peach Punch is a pretty peach shade with no shimmer. It can be a tad streaky but it can be evened out, however not as easily as some of the others.

And there we have it!

There are definitely some great shades in the collection, but there are a couple that fall a little flat formula wise.

I'd have liked to have seen a creamy red shade make an appearance as Grapefruit is too pink, as beautiful as it is. A bright, vivid red would have been a lovely addition to the collection.

As they feel a lot like a lip balm on the lips, it makes me rub my lips together a lot (do any of you guys do that when wearing lip balm?). This can reduce the wear time of them though, so this is worth keeping in mind as the wear time is only around a couple of hours as it is.

I'd say that my favourite shades of the collection are Grapefruit and Vivid Cherry as they are both creamy, bold shades. The one I am most let down by is Plum Shock which is a total shame as it is a super pretty shade.

These Shine Burst Gloss Sticks will be particularly great for summer I think as they do help to keep the lips hydrated whilst adding a nice slick of glossy colour.

Overall, I think that the collection is a great new addition to Avon and there is a huge chance that more shades will get added in the future. Let's just hope that one of them is a creamy red to go with the shimmery one!

The Avon Shine Burst Gloss Sticks will be available from Campaign 11 in the UK and they will be available to purchase on my Avon store (UK courier or parcel shop only).

What are your thoughts on the Avon Shine Burst Gloss Stick range? Which shade is your favourite?
