11 Beauty Tips for Eyes That Are Right for You - Guest Post

Your eyes are not only the windows to your soul, but they are also the windows to your—AGE. In fact, when strangers were asked how old a person is they say that the eye area tends to influence their guesses. The skin around the eyes are quite thin and don’t have a lot of fat or connective tissue to pad them. As a result, they wrinkle much easier and are more sensitive to bodily conditions such as illnesses or even just dehydration. What’s more, eyes easily show fatigue. They become red or irritated and become dull when you are tired.

It makes sense then to take careful care of your eyes both for health and aesthetics’ sake. Below are 11 tips on how to care for your eyes, so they look young and healthy even as you age.

Health Tips

1 – Take Multivitamins for The Eyes

The eye is still an organ and no amount of eye cream are going to make your eyes look young if your eyes and the rest of your body is suffering from the inside. For starters, a healthy diet, one in which the majority of the calories come from plants, can do wonders for the health of your eyes. If you want to take it to the next level, be sure to take multivitamins that contain vitamin A, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, lutein, and zeaxanthin.

2 – Drink Lots of Water

Dehydration always shows on the skin around your eyes. Without proper hydration, the thin skin could wrinkle or worse, darken. Chronic dehydration could not only worsen wrinkles over time; but it could also be fatally dangerous to your other organs as well.

3 – Get Enough Sleep

All the water and all the multivitamins in the world could never replace the value of a good night’s sleep. We highly suspect that they reason the beauty industry has become so huge is because so many women today no longer get enough sleep and have to rely on creams and potions to help their skin. Do your eyes a favor and get enough rest. Not only will this combat early signs of aging around your eyes, but it can also help you stave off migraines as well as keep your blood pressure in check.

Makeup Tips

4 – Use Concealer

Concealer is a god send. It can mask signs of fatigue on your skin and make you look fresh and new. Choose a slightly yellow shade that is a shade darker than what your foundation would be. If you have especially dark circles your eyes, start with a base of orange or peach colored concealer and buff it and let it dry. Once dry, apply a concealer that matches your skin tone and blend them together until the orange isn’t quite as obvious anymore.

5 – Highlight the Inner Corners of Your Eyes

Highlighting the inner corners of your eyes can make it look more alive and open. Choose a highlight color that is closer to your skin tone.

6 – Invest in Good Quality Mascara

For the ladies on here or are quite concerned with tired and ageing eyes, it really might be worth it to invest in good quality mascara. Mascara that lengthens, provides volume, does not clump and does not smudge. Mascara can open up the eyes, making you look more awake. Just mascara and the best lip plumpers you have in your purse, and you’ll be good to go.

Home Remedies

7 – Green Tea for Puffy Eyes

Don’t throw away your tea bags just yet. Save your tea bags and keep them in resealable bags in the freezer. When your eyes become puffy, simply take out a couple of tea bags and cover your eyes with them. The ice will help soothe inflammation while the caffeine in tea the tea will help induce blood and lymph circulation in the area.

8 – Aloe Vera Gel to Sooth Eyes

Aloe Vera is cooling and contains a lot of vitamins. You can use the gel store bought or squeezed right out of the aloe vera leaf if you have any at home. Wipe the gel onto your eyes in a massaging motion and let it dry. Wash off afterward.

Beauty Regimen

9 – Invest in Good Eye Cream

This is especially true for people ages 25 and over. A good eye cream is the cornerstone of any eye care regimen. Choose one with the following ingredients: retinol, vitamin K, and vitamin C. Vitamin C is important for skin renewal because collagen literally cannot exist in your body without its most important building block—vitamin C. In a 2003 study, women who applied eye creams containing both retinol and vitamin K every night for 12 weeks saw their dark circles improve by 33%.

10 – Purchase Masks that Come with Eye Masks

Traditionally, face masks have the eyes cut-out so you can still do things while you have your mask on. Try and purchase masks with eye patches next time so that you can include your eyes in all that pampering you do for your skin.

11 – Remove Eye Makeup—ALWAYS

There’s no excuse. You have to remove your eye makeup before you go to bed. In fact, remove it the moment you settle in at home. Makeup, no matter how to matter how pretty it makes us look, still contains unwanted chemicals. The extra thin skin around your eyes will suffer the most from over exposure to make up.
