The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick in Poppy Bronze review

The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Velvet Sticks are The Body Shop’s first chubby sticks that provide a natural flush of colour to the cheeks and the lips. The easy to use sticks provide a matte finish with a velvety texture. They come in a range of five shades.

Despite the matte finish, the Lip & Cheek Velvet Sticks each contain Community Fair Trade marula oil (the same type that is used in The Body Shop Beautifying Oils) that leave the lips and cheeks feeling soft and hydrated.

I picked myself up the shade Poppy Bronze (the other shades include Poppy Nude, Poppy Coral, Poppy Red and Poppy Pink) which is a natural-pink type of shade that contains a subtle golden sparkle.

Application:

Application of The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick is really straight-forward. After applying your foundation/BB cream/CC Cream (or not, if you prefer to go without a base), simply brush the stick across the cheeks and use your fingers to blend into the skin. How much you apply depends on the desired finish that you want. It's a buildable product so it can be as subtle or as vivid as you like!

On the lips you can apply it like a regular lip pencil/crayon.

At first glance it does look a bit thick for application on the lips, but it is just as simple as a thinner type of lip crayon.

Results:

On the cheeks, The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick in Poppy Bronze applies and blends into the skin easily. The results are a beautiful natural flush that isn’t over the top and looks subtle rather than bright.

I can’t say much about the subtlety of the other shades as I haven’t had a chance to try them out, but in regards to Poppy Bronze I did find it to be the case.

Even though it does have a matte finish on the skin, it contains micro glitter that provides a nice and healthy looking glow that doesn’t make the skin appear greasy or overly shiny. Therefore, it’s a great blush to try if you have oily skin and are fed up of matte products making your skin look a little dull.

On the lips, the Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick is pigmented enough to get great coverage in one sweep, but if you prefer more colour then it is also buildable.

My only gripe with it is that due to the matte finish, it will pull up every hint of dryness on the lips that it can possibly find, even if you had no idea that you had dry areas in the first place.

Putting that aside though, I didn't find the Velvet Stick to actually dry the lips out. In fact, it was mildly hydrating.

I found the longevity to be incredibly good on both the cheeks and the lips. I didn't find it necessary to re-apply onto the lips often at all, even after eating and drinking. It also didn't leave any noticeable lipstick marks on glasses and so on after drinking.

Again, I can't say for certain if that is the case with the rest of the shades, but with Poppy Bronze I was really happy with the longevity!

Overall, The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick in Poppy Bronze is a great little product. The application is fast and long-lasting and the finish is perfect for those casual days. It's the type of product that I'm definitely happy to purchase in a variety of shades rather than just the one, mainly down to the ease of use!

You can purchase a full-size, 4g tube of The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick for £12 from The Body Shop.
