Well, hopefully this post will help out in some way!
As you may have noticed, I haven't posted anything in a while. If you follow me on Twitter, then you may have read that I have been down with the flu. However, instead of sulking about it, I have drawn inspiration from it and have come up with this bizarre theme of a post!
I have decided to write up a list that contains my favourite products to use when I'm bunged up! This list contains products that I find don't irritate a snotty nose, or help to disguise any zombie-esque flu-ness!
So without further ado, here is my list of top 'flu-perfect' beauty products!
Oils -
I am a huge fan of essential oils. However, when it comes to snotty times, I am drawn to one in particular - eucalyptus. This oil is amazing at helping to clear out your nostrils, providing you the ability to breathe again! In fact, it is used in vapour rub, so the scent should be familiar if you use that!
My favourite way to use eucalyptus oil when I have a cold is to add a few drops to my bathwater. Whilst you relax your achiness, the oil can help to clear your nose! Another fantastic use is to add a few drops to some water in an oil burner in your bedroom. It really helps to clear up your nose, especially before bed!
Another oil that I enjoy using during snotty times is The Body Shop's Beautifying Oil. This oil doesn't help with clearing a blocked nose, but it does feel nice to give your hair a hot oil treatment! Simple things can help to perk you up, including lovely, soft hair!
You can buy essential oils at varying prices from Freshskin and you can buy The Body Shop's Beautifying Oils from their website or stores for £9 each.
Cleansing/face washing -
The reason that I like using this face wash when I’m feeling all snotty and grotty is because of the fact that it contains eucalyptus oil and mint. As I explained before, the eucalyptus helps in regards to clearing up your nose. Therefore, you can clean your face and clear your nose at the same time!
Another fantastic cleanser that you can use that also contains eucalyptus oil is Liz Earle’s Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. The eucalyptus isn’t as powerful, but it’s still slightly noticeable! This cleanser is also fantastic for removing makeup.
You can buy the face wash for £7.99 from Urban Veda and you can buy Cleanse & Polish for varying prices/sizes from Liz Earle.
Eyes -
Eyes can become so red when you have the flu. Therefore, Benefit's It's Potent is an amazing little cream to reach out for.
I have been using this eye cream at night, but during my recent ill-time I have found a huge comfort with it. It has helped to prevent the horrible ‘I’m-so-bunged-up-with-cold’ eyes that occur and has therefore helped me to remain looking somewhat human. This creams helps to brighten the eye area and disguise dark circles, and it does that job well!
Along with this, if you want to wear makeup whilst you’re ill, Benefit’s Lemon Aid is fantastic at also helping to prevent your eyes from looking like you haven’t slept in a week! The yellow tinted cream works to cover any redness around your eyes and it can also brighten the eye area.
You can buy It's Potent for £25.50 and Lemon Aid for £16.50 from Benefit.
Nails -
So painting your nails when you have a cold is a pretty bad idea. What do you do when you need to blow your nose whilst waiting for your nails to dry? See, not a good idea. However, just because you can’t paint your nails doesn’t mean that you can’t spruce them up a bit to help cheer yourself up!
The Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File, buffer and hoof stick are so fantastic for times just like these. Finding some time to just sit and tidy up your nails can help you feel a bit better - even if it is only a little bit - when you’re feeling under the weather.
The file is amazing and it simply turns your nails into dust. It provides a super smooth finish and it can also be used in a sawing motion rather than only filing one way. The hoof stick gently pushes back your cuticles and the buffer adds a glass-like shine.
You will look like you have added a coat of clear varnish to your beautifully shaped nails. Perfect nails without the need for nail polish! Perfect!
You can buy the nail file for £12.50, the buffer for £5.50 and the hoof stick for £1.10 all from Leighton Denny.
Moisturise -
Do you ever feel your skin begin to feel a little dehydrated when you have a cold? Well, I do. Therefore, my little samples of Givenchy's Ultra Sparkling Moisturiser and Night Cream have been a godsend. Comfort and rehydration without any added oiliness, it’s just what the doctor ordered in terms of skincare!
In addition to these, the Delarom Acquaconfort face mask can provide your skin with hydration in just a few minutes. No having to rinse it from your skin either, just remove with a cotton pad!
You can buy Givenchy's Hydra Sparkling day cream for £39 and night cream f0r £42 from Debenhams and Delarom's Acquaconfort Mask for £24 from Birchbox.
So there we have it! My top products that are flu-safe!

Try raw, local British honey. Great for the skin and also with hot lemon as a reviver and relieving a sore throat...
